House Republicans have blocked a controversial amendment to the GENIUS Act, a key piece of digital asset legislation, that would have compelled the DOJ to release documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. The move comes as 'Crypto Week' kicks off in Congress, with lawmakers focusing on three major crypto bills.

Democrats, led by Representative Ro Khanna, sought to tie the Epstein case to the stablecoin bill in a bid to force transparency from the Trump-era DOJ. The failed amendment WOULD have required Attorney General Pam Bondi to preserve and release all Epstein-related materials, including alleged client lists.

The political maneuver underscores the increasingly contentious nature of crypto legislation in Washington. While Republicans advance market-structure bills, Democrats continue pushing for broader financial transparency measures – creating unexpected clashes at the intersection of digital assets and political accountability.
